We journeyed up to Providence, Rhode Island this past summer. We wanted to visit a new city and state, and Providence is about 3.5 hours from our house, so we figured it was perfect! We stayed downtown and spent two nights in the city. Since we tend to do a ton of walking in new cities just taking in the views, it was the perfect amount of time for our mini getaway!
Here are some highlights of our trip!
Walking through Waterplace Park gives you a nice view of downtown Providence! We walked around and took in the nice views. There are some restaurants and bars nearby, so it’s a good place to walk through while you are on your way to lunch or dinner! We would say it’s more of a place you wander through, as opposed to a destination.
If you want an elevated view of Providence, Prospect Terrace is the place for you! It’s the perfect place to go around sunset, especially if you bring a picnic or some drinks. It’s not too big of an area, but it seemed like a nice local gathering spot. We are always up for a good view of any city, so of course we stopped here! Our honest review : the views weren’t out of this world, but we still enjoyed it!
The Rhode Island State House is a big landmark in the middle of the city! We kept finding ourselves walking nearby, and every time we would stop to take in the building’s beauty. You are able to tour the inside as well (unfortunately the tours weren’t running when we were there), but we were grateful just to enjoy the beautiful architecture of the building! This was one of our favorite spots.

Showing off!
If you like classic arcade games (and beer!..luckily we like both), Free Play Arcade Bar is perfect for you! We spent an evening after dinner playing all the arcade games, from pinball to skeeball to Pac-Man! You name it, they have it. Plus, they have a bar for drinks before, during, or after you play!
Very serious business!!Looking for a yummy donut? KNEAD Donuts has a variety of gourmet donuts and you won’t be disappointed. We always tend to scope out yummy treats wherever we go, and in Providence, donuts were the choice!! We don’t have any photos of the donuts because we ate them too fast 🙂 .
Just walking through the streets of Providence was fun because the city had all different vibes – from the street art, to the architecture, and beyond!
Roger Williams Park houses a ton of different activities. There is the zoo, the Museum of Natural History and Planetarium, and the Botanical Center. There are also a bunch of different gardens, walking paths, and even a carousel! We rented a paddle boat and paddled around the lake. It was a nice and quiet activity for a relaxing afternoon combined with wandering around the park! It ended up pouring while we were walking around (sans an umbrella), so we had a nice jog to the car, haha!
