Mt. Floyen is one of the seven sister mountains in Bergen, Norway. It is the closest to the city center of Bergen, and therefore most tourists end up spending a few hours visiting the mountain. You can walk up or take a funicular to the top. Sitting 1,394 feet high, the top of the mountain offers a great view of Bergen.
Bergen peeking out at us on the way up!
Although there was a funicular, we decided to walk up to the top of the mountain. We took our time getting there and enjoyed the view the entire way. There were some parts where it felt like we would never reach the top, but eventually we did! There were a bunch of funny statues once we got to the top.
May or may not have rode the reindeer to the top
New friend!
New pet?
Once we reached the main area, there were so many families and children. It seemed like there were just as many tourists there are there were locals. While the walk up the monutain was exhausting, it was a little chilly once we reached the top. I convinced Albert to get ice cream – I saw all the children with ice cream and of course I had to have some too. We enjoyed the view over the city while eating our ice cream.
Seriously.. how could you say no to this view?!
Yes we had a selfie stick..
Bahhh!!
The main reason I wanted to go up (besides the view of course) was because I heard you could borrow canoes and canoe around a lake at the top of the mountain. The best part was that it was free! We followed the signs towards to the lake and we were there within a few minutes. It was a nice retreat because there weren’t nearly as many children and families in this area. We walked over to the rental area, they supplied us with life jackets, and off we went!
Perfect!
The lake was pretty small, but it was big enough for us to go around and around a few times and just take in all the nature around us while we were on the lake. It was interesting because although we were on top of a mountain – we were canoeing in the middle of a lake! Oh, Norway!
Super stoked
The view from the canoe!
The reflection was unreal!
We walked around the lake a little and took some jumping photos (of course).
This took us about five tries..
We headed back down the mountain a slightly different way than how we headed up, but the views of the city were just as beautiful. The trip down the mountain was a lot quicker than the trip up, but we can’t complain about that! All in all, Mt. Floyen was a great place to check out, with the canoes being the highlight!
Back to Bergen we go!
Down and down the winding hills!
